Aeromed Receives Prestigious Accreditation

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Aeromed International Critical Care Air Ambulance received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) on October 22, 2005. CAMTS is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical transport services. The prestigious accreditation represents the highest standards possible for an air ambulance service and Aeromed becomes one of only 112 accredited services worldwide to receive the honor.

The accreditation process places priority on quality patient care and safety of the transport environment through an extensive and in-depth review by the commission. In order to receive the accreditation, an air ambulance program must be in substantial compliance with the CAMTS Accreditation Standards and demonstrate overall quality service.

"Aeromed applied for the accreditation earlier this year as part of our commitment to provide the highest standard of care to our clients as possible. We are proud of the CAMTS accreditation and the recognition of our service," said Brooks Wall, Aeromed's director of operations.

Aeromed is Alaska's largest fixed-wing critical care air ambulance and offers both jet and turbo prop transport for critically ill and injured patients. Its varied fleet of aircraft enables the company to conduct simultaneous transports or respond to large scale multiple emergencies at once with medical crews staffed around the clock, seven days a week.

“Flying over 1,500 medevac missions every year is substantial,” said Wall. “We applied for this accreditation so we could grow as a program and demonstrate our commitment to excellence to the people of Alaska.”

Aeromed’s medical flight crews meet rigorous requirements to ensure that the highest quality patient care is delivered during all phases of every transport. The medical crews are based at the airport while on duty, giving Aeromed a door seal time of less than 45 minutes. Each medevac mission has an experienced flight nurse and flight paramedic onboard.

The Aeromed Delta operation, based in Bethel, is Alaska’s first regional medevac service to achieve the CAMTS accreditation. This operation is dedicated to servicing the rural communities in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region.

Experienced pilots specially trained to handle all types of airport conditions operate Aeromed’s diverse Anchorage and Bethel-based fleet. Remote worksites and rural communities throughout Alaska are serviced by Aeromed each and every day. Aeromed also performs worldwide missions due to its strategic Pacific Rim base and its extended-range aircraft.

The Aeromed fleet includes:

  • Gulfstream III, based in Anchorage.
  • Cessna Citation SII, based in Anchorage
  • (2) Cessna Citation II, based in Anchorage
  • Cessna C-208B Grand Caravan, based in Bethel

  • Aeromed also has access to a Westwind II and two Cessna Conquests, all based in Anchorage.

Owned by the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation, Aeromed is the preferred provider for the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium.

Security Aviation, Inc. provides Aeromed’s Anchorage-based aviation services, and Grant Aviation provides aviation services from Bethel.
